Minnesota Therapist Justine Guzman, MA, LPC
Does this sound like you?
You've been struggling to understand your own needs in relationships, maybe feeling disconnected, unseen, or unsure of who you are outside of the roles you play for others. Perhaps you're wrestling with your identity, your body, or the way you show up in your family. You might be a member of the LGBTQ+ community who has never felt truly understood by a therapist, or someone quietly fighting an eating disorder while keeping up appearances.
Whatever you're carrying, you don't have to figure it out alone. Therapy is a place where you can get support untangling the patterns that keep you stuck and moving toward a life that feels whole, honest, and fulfilling.
Meet your Minnesota therapist
Justine Guzman, MA, LPC
Hi, I'm Justine. I've spent my career working with individuals, couples, and families on some of life's most complex and personal challenges, from relationship and sexual issues to eating disorders, LGBTQ+ identity, and family dynamics. I believe every person holds the capacity for profound transformation, and my role is to help you access it.
I bring a direct, intentional approach to therapy. I won't just listen and nod; I'll work alongside you to uncover what's driving your patterns, honor your individuality, and help you understand your needs and how to meet them. My training in EMDR and the Gottman Method means I can offer evidence-based tools that go beyond conversation to create real, lasting change.
I'm especially passionate about serving the LGBTQ+ community and have pursued specialized training to offer affirming, culturally competent care.
Credentials: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor #5372, EMDR Trained, Gottman Level 2 Trained
Focus areas: Relationships/Sex, Families, Eating Disorders, LGBTQ+
My approach to counseling
I believe that healing happens when you feel both challenged and fully accepted—and that's exactly the environment I work to create. My approach is collaborative and culturally informed, meaning I don't apply a one-size-fits-all method. Instead, I tailor every session to your unique background, identity, and goals.
I use a blend of empathic confrontation and genuine acceptance to help you move through resistance and toward self-understanding. Whether we're working through relationship dynamics, body image, sexual identity, or family conflict, I focus on the emotions underlying your experiences, because that's where the most meaningful change begins.
I'm trained in EMDR to support trauma processing and Gottman methods for couples work, so I bring both depth and practical structure to the therapeutic process. My goal is to create limitless space for you to grow into the version of yourself you're reaching for.
What to expect from the therapy process
Step 1: Your first appointment
Our first session is about getting to know you: your background, your relationships, and the challenges you're navigating. It's a chance to settle in, ask questions, and begin building the foundation of our work together.
Step 2: Ongoing therapy sessions
This is where the real work happens. In regular weekly or biweekly sessions, we'll use targeted therapeutic tools to help you process what's holding you back and make meaningful, lasting progress toward your goals.
Step 3: Reaching your goals
As you grow, we'll track your progress, adjust our approach as needed, and begin to integrate your insights into everyday life so the changes you make in session translate into real transformation outside of it.
FAQs about therapy
-
There’s no definitive sign that a person “needs” therapy, so trust your instincts about what feels right to you. My clients often come to me when they’re feeling consistently stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or like something just isn't working in their relationships or inner life. With that said, you don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek support simply because they want more clarity, connection, or fulfillment.

I work with a wide range of personal and relational challenges. Some of the most common include:
Relationship and sexual concerns
Eating disorders and body image
LGBTQ+ identity and affirmation
Family conflict and parenting dynamics
Mood issues, including anxiety and depression
Trauma and self-harm
Ethnic and cultural identity
This isn’t an exhaustive list. If you’re interested in working together, reach out so we can discuss your situation directly and see whether I can help.

Therapy helps you understand yourself more deeply, break patterns that no longer serve you, and build the tools to navigate life with greater confidence and clarity. For many clients, it leads to more fulfilling relationships, improved emotional regulation, and a stronger sense of self.

Yes, therapy is usually covered by insurance, though coverage varies by provider and plan. As an out-of-network provider, I don’t bill insurance directly, but I can provide you with documentation to submit for potential reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. I recommend contacting your insurance company directly to ask about your benefits before your first appointment.

Absolutely. It's one of the most common feelings new clients have, and it makes complete sense. Opening up to someone new takes courage and vulnerability. That said, most people find that after just one or two sessions, the nerves fade and the process starts to feel natural and even relieving.
